Math Instruction

Teachers certified in elementary education, special education, and/or mathematics provide individualized instruction to students who are struggling with math facts, fluency, calculation, problem-solving, or more advanced mathematical concepts. Our tutors work with students at all levels, from elementary school through college, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus.

Math can be particularly challenging because it is cumulative in nature, with new concepts building upon previously learned skills. When students have gaps in their foundational knowledge, they may struggle as mathematical concepts become increasingly complex. Over time, these difficulties can lead to decreased confidence and increased anxiety surrounding math.

Our instructors begin by identifying the student’s current level of understanding and assessing foundational skills to determine where gaps or areas of difficulty may be interfering with progress. They then develop individualized strategies that address not only what the student is learning, but also how that particular student learns and processes mathematics.

Our tutors also have extensive experience working with students with dyscalculia and other learning differences that affect mathematical development. They use explicit instruction, multiple ways of representing mathematical concepts, visual and hands-on strategies, and opportunities for repeated practice to help students develop a stronger conceptual foundation while building fluency and confidence.

For students who are ready for more advanced coursework, our tutors provide support in higher-level mathematics as well as physics, helping students strengthen the mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and conceptual skills needed to succeed in challenging high school and college courses.

Whether a student is struggling with foundational math skills, experiencing persistent difficulties associated with dyscalculia, or seeking support in advanced mathematics or physics, our goal is to help each student develop the skills, strategies, and confidence needed to become a more capable and independent learner.
