Our Story and Client Testimonials

In 1996, Drs. Bruce Miller and Moss Jackson, Directors of the Center for Psychological Services, founded the Center for Educational Services. Their purpose was to expand the continuum of psychological care provided by CPS to address the academic issues faced by the children and adults they served.

Initially directed by Jim and Elissa Fisher, founders of the Hilltop School and experts in designing systems of seamless service to youngsters with learning differences, CES since has broadened its reach to include not only these students, but also mainstream learners with specialized needs. Currently, our tutors and coaches work with children and adults who need assistance with beginning reading, writing, and/or math skills; study and organizational skills; foreign language; science; preparation for standardized tests, including the SAT and ACT; construction of college essays; and executive function coaching.

Dr. Amanda Strine is the Director of the Center for Educational Services. For over nineteen years, she has worked for the Center for Psychological Services, conducting evaluations of children for school admissions, gifted education and learning differences. She also provides consultations with parents and students to help guide school placement, keeping in mind the educational and emotional needs of the individuals. In her job as CES director, Amanda works with parents to find the best tutor match for the student according to his/her challenges. She is committed to provide outstanding tutorial services to the community in order to enhance learning.

“CES has provided us with Sarah, an excellent tutor who has helped our daughter, not only with math, our primary concern, but with other subjects as needed. Sarah understands that good tutoring addresses not just the intellect but also the emotional approach to studying. Sarah has also been very flexible when we have to juggle times with sports, etc. And CES has made paying the bill as easy as possible! I would highly recommend CES.”

“My son is thriving in college and we largely have Marilyn to thank.  She has been sent from the heavens. He likes her, respects her, and listens to her. Had we not taken our son to Amanda for outside testing years ago for a correct diagnosis of his issues or gotten the recommendation from you for [a local school] we do not even know if he would have even made it to college. If we can get him through college with Marilyn’s help, you both may have given him his best chances for a successful life.”

“I have been using CES tutoring for about a year now, and I have always been satisfied with the customer service that is provided. The staff are very friendly, and they matched me with a tutor that I have grown to have a bond and a friendship with. I use CES tutoring for college work as I am going to school for my MED to become a teacher, and I needed some extra support with writing important documents for classes. Amanda and the staff always have a smile and they are willing to work with you whenever you need it.  My experience with CES tutoring has been nothing but amazing. If you need a tutor go no further than CES tutoring.”
